iPod collections ripped from CDs and DVDs will be made legal under government plans.
Millions of people have technically broken the law by copying music and films onto their computers and mobile devices – even if they have bought them legitimately.
Nobody has been taken to court but users potentially face paying retail prices for all the music and films they have copied, which could run into thousands of pounds for even a modest collection.
A survey found that only 15 per cent of people realised that the practice was illegal.
