Digital Preservation Capabilities Workshop at iPRES 2013

Digital Preservation Capabilities Workshop at iPRES 2013

How to assess and improve capabilities in digital preservation?

While Digital Preservation is making certain progress in terms of tool development, progressive establishment of standards and increasing activity in user communities, there is a wide gap of approaches to systematically assess, compare and improve how organisations go about achieving their preservation goals. While there exist standards suggesting certain functional building blocks and others prescribing criteria to be met by organisations to be considered trustworthy, there is little systematic, well-founded work on assessing organisational processes and capabilities in a transparent, comparable way.

The Digital Preservation Capabilities Workshop is designed as an interactive, focussed venue bringing together those responsible for repository operations, management, and governance with those interested in developing and evaluating systematic approaches for assessment.
