Spaces of Television researchers uncover ‘lost’ Ken Loach film

Spaces of Television researchers Leah Panos and Billy Smart today had the happy experience of discovering a 1973 BBC film directed by Ken Loach (featuring an early performance by Ben Kingsley) long believed to be lost. This happened when we were conducting research for the forthcoming ‘Spaces of Television’ book at the BFI, looking through uncatalogued tapes for Full House, a live Saturday night BBC2 arts programme broadcast between 1972 and 1973.

    Hello there,

Thank you for linking to our blog.

Could you change the title of the link to the revised title of the article, please? It now reads ‘Spaces of Television researchers uncover ‘lost’ Ken Loach film’. Although the film itself was officially cataloged as ‘lost’, we’ve found out that another copy has been in circulation, available for the public to view at the BFI Mediatheque since 2011. What we did uncover though was the full programme that includes the film – and a significant cataloging omission!

    Thank you,

    Billy Smart,

    University of Reading
