BBC tots up Fabric value

BBC tots up Fabric value

The BBC is evaluating the commercial potential of its digital media initiative (DMI) workflow, known as Fabric.

BBC North controller of production Mark Harrison said: “It is bespoke to the BBC, but if it is concluded that it can be of benefit to other organisations then we would look at [selling it].”

“It is an incredible piece of technology that has taken many years to deliver and is not entirely cheap. The first users are in Salford, and they are using a light version,”Harrisonadded.

In June the BBC outsourced some aspects of the DMI project.
